New 4R Permit Allows Use of CLO on Previously Restored Land

Restoration of brownfield land including former quarries, mines, spoil tips and landfill sites tend to be complex and lengthy processes. Restoration schemes often involve multiple stakeholders and contracts, that typically cover a variety of existing and historical land uses.

In our experience, sites often require several restoration techniques and approaches to overcome different areas and current conditions of a site. Most sites, in particular larger-scale former collieries,  quarries and landfills, will already have an element of a historical restoration scheme, or have restored areas that have failed due to inconsistencies in management and aftercare.

To overcome this, 4R Group has worked closely with the Environment Agency to obtain a new bespoke mobile plant permit which allows use of materials including non-source segregated composts, digestates and biosolids on previously restored non-agricultural land.

This means that in addition to our standard restoration services, we can now help our clients to bring existing or failed previously restored areas up to standard, or implement waste additions as part of long-term aftercare and maintenance of energy crops.

We have already celebrated our new permit with successful registration of its first deployment – work for which is due to start imminently!
